Cell Culture Facility

CCF logoThe Cell Culture Facility, or CCF, is a small multi-user laboratory managed and overseen by the Central Instrument Facility, or CIF, in the Department of Chemistry. It is divided in two adjoining but separate laboratories with mammalian cell culture in one lab and bacterial cell culture in the other. Current users mainly consist of principal investigators from Chemistry and their collaborators.

The shared facility model entails that the CIF oversees the facility, maintains shared laboratory equipment, and provides basic laboratory consumables for a user fee*, while CCF users are expected to bring their own cell culture and project-specific materials to the lab as detailed below. The CIF will also ensure that all biosafety measures are in place and enforce the institutional policies that control access to the laboratory.

The CCF is a Biosafety Level 2 Laboratory (BSL2), hence all work must be performed following BSL2 guidelines (CDC BMBL). Failure to do so will result in suspension from this facility.

Access to the facility is granted by the CIF upon proof of training, knowledge of potential risks, and proficiency in standard and BSL2 special microbiological practices before working with BSL-2 agents. On-site training in biosafety and standard operational procedures will be provided by the CCF manager.
